Two Russian soldiers were killed, and another wounded, in Chechnya when a rebel mine was detonated by remote-control, the Russian army command told the AVN military news agency Friday.

Two separatist rebels were killed, and a third wounded, in a bomb explosion Thursday in the southwest Urus-Martan district of the war-torn republic, ITAR-TASS cited the Russian interior ministry saying.

The blast went off in the victims' car as they were making a getaway from the police, the ministry said, referring to the rebels as "foreign mercenaries" without specifying their nationality.

Many foreign nationals, including Arabs such as the feared Saudi- or Jordanian-born commander Khattab, have flocked to the Chechen rebels' side since the conflict broke out in October 1999, according to the Russians -- MOSCOW (AFP)
