Russian tax authorities have demanded the liquidation of the Media-MOST empire headed by tycoon Vladimir Gusinsky, fighting extradition from Spain, the independent media group said Friday.
The tax inspectorate lodged the request before a Moscow arbitration court, the Media-MOST press service told AFP.
The newspaper-to-broadcasting group, which includes Russia's only nationwide independent television station, NTV, has been a constant critic of President Vladimir Putin's administration.
"The authorities through this measure have made clear their aim: to liquidate NTV and thus the last vestiges of Russian democracy," the channel's head Yevgeny Kiselyov said on NTV -- MOSCOW (AFP)
