Coordinating efforts, improving dialogue and promoting effective partnerships among Jordan’s private entities and public agencies has been determined as a focus among the goals for the USAID-funded Sustainable Achievement of Business Expansion and Quality (SABEQ) Program. In its first months, SABEQ has embarked on several initiatives to reach this goal. The third week of January saw a major step in developing effective partnerships by assisting the integration of Jordan Enterprise Development Corporation (JEDCO); Jordanian Upgrading Modernization Program (JUMP); and the Euro-Jordanian Export Program (EJEP) into the entity now known as Jordan Enterprise (JE). Each of these entities operated independently serving the small and medium sized enterprises through enterprise development and export promotion, and through this integration are now housed under one umbrella.
SABEQ is providing support to Jordan Enterprise through technical assistance in developing the operational plan and building the capacity of the institution. Additional steps to reach the goal of an effective and cohesive entity include additional technical assistance via workshops and training sessions, which will be conducted over the coming months. The work sessions will cover a wide range of topics specific to improving the productivity of Jordanian firms and enhance their exports.
The USAID-funded Sustainable Achievement of Business Expansion and Quality (SABEQ) program is a broad economic development initiative implemented by BearingPoint, Inc. and a sizeable team of international and Jordanian partner firms. By both supporting improvements in the business environment and providing assistance to expand innovation and productivity in Jordanian businesses, SABEQ’s four components all support the common objective of building up the private sector—Jordan’s companies, innovators and entrepreneurs—as a powerful engine of economic growth.
