Iraq’s President Saddam Hussein accused the United States and Britain of acting against the principle of the United Nations charter by pressuring the Security Council into adopting a resolution aimed at controlling Middle-East oil.

“The US and Britain administrations have rebelled against the principles of the UN charter and international law and behave with the international community as if it must execute their orders,” the Iraqi leader said upon receiving the Malaysian Premier’s personal envoy - Information Minister Tan Sri Khalil, the Iraq News Agency reported Saturday.

“These two administrations are trying to press the Security Council so it adopts (a) resolution that go(es) against the UN charter and international law” President Hussein said, and added, “the issue is tied to evil designs to dominate the world and control Middle Eastern resources and oil”.

He continued and said, “(the) new US, British trend at the UN tries to consider power and opportunity instead of international right and just.”

The Iraqi President called upon countries all around the world to adopt a fair stance to defend themselves and safeguard their interests, not just for Iraq's sake.

The Iraqi ruler expressed Baghdad's hope that Malaysia play a distinguished role in adopting Iraqi and Palestinian issues and “unveil faked claims of the US and Zionism concerning liberty and international law and others’ rights to the public opinion, for they breach these principles”, the agency added.
