Sailboat sinks off Sicily, 7 people missing

ALBAWABA - Seven people are reportedly missing after their sailboat sank off the coast of Sicily, firefighters and rescue teams were immediately dispatched to the scene to assist with the rescue operations.

A source spoke to AFP, saying that Fifteen other people were rescued after the accident in the waters near Palermo. According to the Coast Guards, among the missing are Four Britons, two Americans, and a Canadian.

A witness reported by the ANSA agency stated, "The boat was all lit up. Around 4:30 am, it was no longer there. A beautiful boat where there was a party. A normal joyous vacation day at sea turned into tragedy".

Another vessel in the nearby assisted until rescuers came, according to media accounts. Fisherman Fabio Cefalu claimed he and other fishermen came to the yacht's rescue.

Only a few hours later, the waters calmed and rescue divers discovered a corpse from the region where the boat went down. Emergency personnel were seen dragging a corpse bag to shore.

According to media sources, survivors included two persons with dual French and British citizenship, a Sri Lankan, a New Zealander, and an Irish national.
