SAMENA’s “Beyond Connectivity 2010” to highlight the importance of innovation to facilitate growth of regional telecommunications industry

SAMENA Telecommunications Council, the tri-regional telecom consortium has announced its Beyond Connectivity 2010 conference themed “Shifting Gears – Innovative Strategies for a New Era” from 28-29 April 2010 at Movenpick Hotel, Beirut to evaluate the current growth prospects and future opportunities as well as the challenges that exist in the telecommunications industry today.

SAMENA’s Beyond Connectivity 2010 will bring together the telecommunications industry’s leading experts including Eng. Saud Al Daweesh, Group CEO of Saudi Telecom, Dr. Nizar Dalloul, CEO of Comium, Dr. Nasser Bin Obood, Acting CEO for Etisalat, Osman Sultan, du CEO, Nayla Khawam, CEO of Orange Jordan, Dr. Amer Awadh Al Rawas, CEO of Omantel, Mr. Mikkel Vinter, CEO of Friendi, Mr. Patrick Farajian, Chairman of Sodetel, and Wilson Varghese, CEO of Kalimat besides other key decision makers to review the global telecommunications landscape and analyze the pattern of growth, evolution, and innovation that can be implemented to improve business competitiveness and revenues.

Highlighting the importance and relevance of Beyond Connectivity 2010, Bocar A. Ba, President of SAMENA Telecommunications Council said, “With increased liberalization of telecom markets in the region, the importance of identifying innovative business strategies to facilitate growth has never been bigger. The aim is to facilitate discussion and promote collaboration among members and non-members and help identify, new opportunities and strategies, solutions to tackle various challenges and, regulatory and policy amendments required to improve industry revenues.”

Emphasizing on the importance of the various panel discussions that have been organized, “Innovation needs to happen not only in developing and deploying the most advanced access technologies, but also in maximizing the opportunities that have resulted from growing consumer demand; developing next generation access technologies such as broadband; building new infrastructure business strategies and mobile application strategies; content creation and distribution; and developing effective policies and regulations to promote greater collaboration within the industry”, added Ba.


A great amount of emphasis is being laid on the CEOs of the Operators in the region, who are faced with the challenge of addressing and meeting the needs of their investors and customers. While investors are looking for greater return on investment, users are demanding more cost-effective, feature-rich and reliable services. SAMENA’s “Beyond Connectivity 2010” will feature a CEO’s live session which will provide the panel of CEO’s representing some of the leading operators in the region, with an opportunity to interact with each other and other delegates in the audience, in a manner that allows for a better understanding of their thoughts, strategies and approach toward leadership.
