General Motors (GM) has appointed Samer El Khalil to the position of GM Middle East Communications and Public Relations Manager. In his new role, Samer will be responsible for all communications activities for GM and its brands in the Middle East. He is succeeding Saada Hammad who has decided to pursue other career opportunities. Samer started his career with GM in 2001, becoming the GMC and Chevrolet SUV Brand Manager in 2005. In this capacity, he re-introduced Chevrolet Full Size Utility Vehicles in Saudi Arabia after an absence of 10 years. Samer has now moved back to Dubai after his most recent two-year assignment as the Regional Marketing and Product Planning Manager for Latin America, Africa and the Middle East (LAAM). Based out of Miramar USA, Samer made sure GM products met LAAM regional market requirements and played a leadership role in the introduction of products manufactured by GM’s joint venture in China to the LAAM region. “I am excited to be moving back to the Middle East to lead the launch of GM’s new-generation 2010 vehicles. I look forward to working with GM’s partners in the region to put the customer first in everything we do. I’m grateful that I can build on the great work that Saada has been delivering for the past 10 years,” said Samer. During her tenure with GM in the Middle East, Saada set up the regional communications department, led GM’s communications during GM’s restructuring and in the past six years successfully launched more than 30 new and renewed car lines. Mike Devereux, President of GM Middle East Operations, said “Samer El Khalil is a dynamic figure who brings a can-do approach to everything he does. This, combined with his valuable experience in the region, will help him lead the new GM to even higher levels. I would also like to thank Saada Hammad for her steadfast leadership that has raised GM’s profile in the Middle East, and I wish her success in her future endeavors.”
