Saudi Arabia on Thursday announced that it had banned the entry of a Polish shipment of goods because officials had found concentrated grapefruit bearing the name of a company in Israel, according to a ministry statement.

“The concerned administration at the ministry of commerce summoned the importer of the shipment for investigation,” said the statement, carried by the official Saudi Press Agency (SPA).

It added that the issue was referred to the Israeli boycott committee at the ministry for execution of the required procedures in such cases.

The ministry also added that the name of the concerned Polish company to a blacklist, said the statement, warning all foreign companies against any form of “secret understanding with any Israeli company or any third party for the flow of either Israeli commodities and products or any suspect commodities to the Saudi markets.”

Saudi Arabia, like many Arab states, has enforced an economic boycott on trade with Israeli companies and banned the entry of Israeli products until a comprehensive peace agreement is reached in the Middle East.

Late April, reports said that Kuwaiti customs officials had seized several Jordanian trucks trying to bring fruit from Israel into the Gulf Arab state in violation of a local ban on Israeli products. But the claims were later denied by Jordanian and Palestinian officials – Albawaba.com
