Saudi Arabia has committed to the full $274 million needed to cover emergency aid to Yemen after a UN appeal, AP reported Sunday.

The UN issued the appeal last week asking for the funding to avoid a humanitarian catastrophe and protect the 7.5 million people affected by the country's conflict. The agency said the money would go toward the necessities like medical aid, drinking water, food and shelter.

Purnima Kahsyap, UN's OCHA humanitarian coordinator, said the UN is grateful for Saudi Arabia's contribution but urged the rest of the international community to continue its support for Yemeni residents, warning that the need will continue to grow as the violence escalates.
