Saudi Arabia on Wednesday beheaded a Yemeni charged with trafficking hashish, upping its number of executions this year to 28, according to the AFP.
The ministry told AFP Nayef al-Briki was convicted of moving large amounts of hashish into the country and trying to sell it and said the government was determined to crack down on narcotics. Al-Briki was executed in the town of Jizan, on the border of Yemen.
The country has lately faced criticism over its human rights record and rising use of the death penalty. In Saudi Arabia, under its strict interpretation of Islamic Sharia Law, crimes punishable by death include drug trafficking, rape, murder, apostasy and armed robbery.
Last year Saudi Arabia executed 87 people, up from 78 in 2013, AFP reported.
