GE Healthcare, the healthcare business of General Electric Company, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Saudi Arabian Ministry of Health to train medical professionals from the Ministry.
This partnership highlights GE Healthcare’s commitment to Saudi Arabia, one of the largest healthcare markets in the region, in delivering GE’s innovative diagnostic solutions focused on early healthcare delivery through earlier diagnosis, potentially more treatment options and disease prevention. With the MoU, more than 1,000 Saudi healthcare professionals are to be trained annually by GE.
His Excellency Dr Obaid Sulaiman Al Obaid, Deputy Minister for Planning and Development, Saudi Arabian Ministry of Health, said: “The Saudi Government has outlined several strategic initiatives to further enhance the quality of healthcare delivery in the Kingdom. The MoU partnership with GE Healthcare is one of the steps towards ensuring that we remain in sync with the latest advancements in diagnostic imaging technologies.”
The first workshop was held for radiology technologists on April 14 at the Saudi Arabian Ministry of Health Training Center, Riyadh, followed by an interactive session addressed by Dr Ibraheem Alorainy, Associate Professor Radiology, King Khaled University Hospital. The Ministry has also selected GE’s Training in Progress – Television Programme (Tip TV), a continuous medical learning programme, to be broadcast at its newly opened training centre in Riyadh. The benefits of Tip TV were showcased at the workshop.
Dr Abdel Al Majeed Khan, General Manager of the Training and Scholarship department, Saudi Arabian Ministry of Health added: “Through GE’s training initiatives, especially the focus on continuing medical education through Tip TV, the Ministry’s new training center will be equipped to deliver new insights into medical science for our professionals.”
GE Healthcare will conduct clinical training programmes every month to the Ministry’s professionals, offer continuous clinical education training on-line, engage senior professionals in leadership and decision making programmes, share best practices in modern medicine, identify and locate training opportunities abroad for the staff and hold two workshops annually on GE’s Change Acceleration Process and Six Sigma methodology and processes.
Dr Ibraheem Alorainy, Associate Professor Radiology, King Khaled University Hospital, said: “Radiology is a fast-evolving science and it is imperative that our professionals keep pace with the latest advancements, as it plays a crucial role in effective healthcare delivery. GE’s Tip TV is perfectly positioned to deliver the latest technologies in radiology to the Saudi healthcare sector.”
GE Healthcare will offer online clinical education to different branches of the Saudi Arabian Ministry of Health in the Holy City of Makkah Al Mukarramah, Riyadh, Jeddah, Mekkah, Al Qasseem Province, Province of Al-Sharqiyah, Al-Madina Al-Munawara, the Eastern Province, Aseer and The Northern Borders.
“Our association with the Ministry of Health for training programmes is a landmark agreement for GE Healthcare in Saudi Arabia,” said Mr. Isam Moursy, General Manager, GE Healthcare, MEACAT region. “We are privileged to share our learning with the Saudi professionals, which will have a lasting impact on the Kingdom’s healthcare sector. By providing a training solution, we are proud to be playing our part in building the country’s healthcare knowledge base. It complements GE’s investments in developing healthcare infrastructure in the region, notably, the opening of a diagnostic imaging manufacturing plant in Riyadh.”
At the workshop on April 14, some 35 radiology professionals from the Ministry were trained extensively in modern radiology practices and methods. In moving forward the MoU, the Ministry will select people to be trained and finalise training modules in consultation with GE.
