A special terror tribunal in Saudi Arabia has sentenced 13 people to prison terms of up to 30 years for a plot to attack U.S. forces, AFP reported Wednesday.

Citing state media, the report said the individuals had planned to attack U.S. military personnel in Qatar and Kuwait. A Qatari, described as the leader of the cell, was sentenced to 30 years in prison, and an Afghan to five years. The other individuals, Saudi nationals, were given sentences of 18 months to 25 years.

It was not clear when the planned attacks were to have taken place. The group wanted to send a member to Iraq to study vehicle bomb-making.
