Saudi Minister of Defense Prince Sultan bin Abdulaziz believes there is some "other force" aiding Osama Bin Laden, the alleged mastermind of the September 11 attacks on New York and Washington.
In an interview issued Monday in the Saudi Arabia Times daily, and its sister Arabic-language newspaper, Al Seyassah, Prince Sultan questioned the ability of bin Laden and his organization to accurately plan and execute such a complex operation without the aid of others.
But the prince did not hint at what this force might be.
Analysts and news reports have alluded to the possibility that Israel, radical US citizens or Iraq could have been involved in the horrific suicide attacks in which about 6,000 people were killed.
Prince Sultan urged the international community to resolve the Middle East conflict, saying that finding a just solution to the Palestinian issue "will uproot the causes of terrorism."
Disputes over the Al Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem are putting the US on a collision course with the entire Muslim world, he continued, cited by the official Kuwaiti news agency (KUNA).
"I personally believe this is a perennial source of tension in the region and it should be properly dealt with to prevent it from being wrongly exploited by someone as an excuse for international crimes and misdeeds," he explained.
Prince Sultan gave an example of Iraqi President Saddam Hussein, “who tried to justify” the invasion of Kuwait in 1990 by claiming to be on the road to liberating Palestine.
The Palestinians and the Israelis "should start implementing the Mitchell report, because this would be the beginning of the end of 50 years of tension in the region," he added.
The issue of Jerusalem "is being used by rogue parties to fuel the sentiments of the masses in the Arab and Muslim worlds," he added – Albawaba.com
