Saudi Arabian poultry farmers are in a flap about the dumping of subsidized foreign products in the market, said Gulf News on Friday, citing a report by a specialized magazines.
In an effort to protect the poultry industry from potential heavy losses, the farmers have called on the authorities to halt the dumping.
According to a report by Middle East Grocer magazine, a request by Abdul Rahman Faqeeh, chairman of the Faqeeh Group, was made to the Saudi ministries of commerce and agriculture to take immediate steps to prevent the alleged dumping by producers from France and Brazil, said the report.
Faqeeh claims the French and Brazilian producers are being supported by their own governments.
In the report, Faqeeh alleged that France was exporting what was left of its poultry to Saudi Arabia after first distributing it among several countries in Eastern Europe and Africa. He also said that chicken products exported to the kingdom by some European and American countries did not comply with Saudi quality standards.
"The level of water content in imported chicken from France and Brazil is 13 percent against the permitted level of five per cent. The water content in locally produced chicken does not exceed three percent," Faqeeh added – Albawaba.com
