Saudi men will have to prove they are married to buy the anti-impotence drug Viagra in pharmacies of the conservative Muslim state, a newspaper reported on Sunday.
"The requirement to show a family registration book in pharmacies for customers wanting to buy Viagra is to be imposed," health ministry official Bader al-Badia told Al-Yaum.
"It's a good way to prevent the medication being sold to unmarried men," in violation of the Islamic laws of Saudi Arabia that prohibit sex outside marriage, the official said.
Riyadh authorized the sale of Viagra in 1999 on a prescription-only basis after approval from the mufti, the kingdom's highest religious authority, and following tests on Saudi men that produced 85 percent positive results - RIYADH (AFP)
