The Saudi private sector registered a growth rate estimated at nearly 2.4 percent in 1999, reported the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), quoting a report as saying.

The council of Saudi chambers of commerce and industry showed in its annual report that the share of the private sector in the gross domestic product was 38 percent, while it reached 32 percent in 1998.

The Kingdom set up a development plan that aims at boosting the role of the private sector as it will have an important influence on Saudi Arabia's future economic growth.

The promotion of the financial sector, an essential tool of the private sector, forms the cornerstone of the plan, according to a study released by the finance ministry -- Albawaba.com
