Saudi Telecom’s Munif Al Mutairi and Orange-Jordan’s Ibrahim Harb elected as Chairman and Vice-Chairman of SAMENA International Roaming Group

SAMENA Telecommunications Council, the tri-regional consortium of telecom operators has announced the election of Mr. Munif Al Mutairi - Director of Roaming and Interconnection Personal Services Unit at Saudi Telecom Company (STC) as the Chairman and Mr. Ibrahim Harb, Legal & Regulatory Director at Orange–Jordan as the Vice-Chairman of SAMENA International Roaming Group (SIRG) which was recently established under the direction of SAMENA’s new Chairman, Eng. Saud Bin Majed Al Daweesh, CEO of Saudi Telecom Group.

 

Highlighting the importance of the responsibility undertaken by the Chairman and Vice-Chairman, Thomas Wilson, CEO and Executive Managing Director, SAMENA Telecommunications Council said, “SIRG will play a very significant role in identifying possible solutions to the challenges that operators are facing today with regard to international roaming rates and the telecommunications industry in general is bound to benefit from the eminence of these two distinguished industry professionals.”

 

“The new leaders of SIRG along with other members of the Group will have to address a number of critical issues that all operators are facing today in international roaming, such as regulatory challenges, changing trends and dynamics of the telecommunications industry, and standards and ethical practices, among others. SIRG will also play a vital role in encouraging cooperation among operators, identifying areas of common interest and expressing common views to the regulators”, added Bocar A. Ba, President of SAMENA Telecommunications Council.

 

SIRG was established during SAMENA’s “Convergence to Istanbul 2009” in November 2009 with the objective of bringing together both single-network and multi-network operators on to a common platform to explore possible industry-wide self-regulatory solutions to common issues faced in international roaming.
