The ‘Clean Up the World’ campaign run by Dubai Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation (PCFC) has been extremely successful, with the Education Unit of the Environment, Health and Safety (EHS) business unit of PCFC coordinating with various schools in Dubai for a range of environment related activities. The ‘Clean Up the World’ campaign was held under the theme of ‘Green Cities – Plan for the Planet’ from November 22 – 24, 2005.
The campaign kicked off with several school children visiting factories in Jebel Ali that are focused on introducing new technologies and solutions for better management of water, energy and environment.
The second day of the campaign saw students from several schools across Dubai take part in a beach clean-up drive along with the workers of ship repair companies based at JADAF Dubai. The students spent over two hours cleaning up the island beside JADAF Dubai.
“The Clean Up the World campaign is held annually, although this year it is being undertaken on a much bigger scale, involving a larger number of school students. Maintaining a clean environment to benefit both present and future generations, is the collective responsibility of all citizens,” said Ahmed Hussain, Chief Executive Officer, EHS. “Today’s children could be tomorrow’s leaders, and by instilling the message of environmental protection among them, they will grow up with an environment-friendly outlook. We thank all the school authorities for their support to our environmental initiatives and we look forward to their continued cooperation in the future.”
Salah bin Dhaen, Commercial Manager, JADAF Dubai, said, “JADAF Dubai has been committed to maintaining a clean, healthy and safe environment and we are pleased to support PCFC’s sustained environment campaign. It was heartening to see the enthusiasm shown by the employees here when they joined the school students in cleaning up the island near JADAF Dubai. The residents of Dubai need to make a conscious effort to ensure that we have a clean, green and non-polluted environment.”
The schools that took part in the campaign included Al Ahliya Al Khayria School, Mohammed bin Rashid Secondary School, Bint Al Nouman Secondary School, and Safia Al Qureshia School. While 36 students each from Al Ahliya Al Khayria and Mohammed bin Rashid schools participated in the campaign, the Bint Al Nouman and Safia Al Qureishi schools had 40 and 24 students respectively.
The campaign was sponsored by JADAF Dubai, Dubai Municipality, Creative Mind, L’Oreal Middle East, Hunter Foods, Alfa Emirates, Master Foods, Emirates Meat, Al Naser Restaurant, FINE Hygienic Paper, Emirates Glass Factory and Emirates Can Factory.
PCFC’s environment campaign concluded today (Thursday, 24th November, 2005) with an environment-themed drawing contest for school students. This event was supported by the Education Unit of EHS, the Ministry of Education and the Higher Colleges of Technology, Dubai.
