ALBAWABA - The Israeli military is said to have arrested Dr. Hossam Abu Safieh, the director of Gaza's Kamal Adwan Hospital, during a raid on the facility. Dr. Abu Safieh is being imprisoned at Sde Teiman military facility, which is well-known for its severe incarceration circumstances, according to Palestinian captives who were recently freed from Israeli custody.
Dr. Abu Safieh was spotted in the prison facility, according to two former inmates who spoke to Al Jazeera. The doctor at the institution was recognized by Ahmed Al-Sayed Salim, an 18-year-old from northern Gaza who was arrested 42 days ago at an Israeli crossing. Yahya Zaqout, another inmate, said that he heard his name mentioned during roll calls in the detention facility even though he did not visit the doctor.
During the operation, Israeli soldiers sent a medical team from Kamal Adwan Hospital to Sde Teiman, according to another former inmate, Alaa Abu Banat. He voiced his worry about how they were being treated, pointing out that they were being severely mistreated, particularly physically.
Given Sde Teiman's history of alleged torture and abuse, sources close to Dr. Abu Safieh's family voiced serious concerns about his wellbeing. To ascertain his health and ensure his release, the family has appealed for international involvement.
Dr. Abu Safieh and other medical personnel were taken into custody during the Israeli assault on the facility last Friday, according to the Gaza Ministry of Health. These worries were echoed by the Gaza Government Media Office, which called on the international community to disclose the whereabouts of Dr. Abu Safieh and the medical staff who were imprisoned. Emphasizing Dr. Abu Safieh's tremendous humanitarian achievements in spite of personal setbacks, such as the murder of his son Ibrahim during the recent fighting, it demanded their immediate release.
International attention has been focused on the tragedy, and demands for responsibility and respect to humanitarian norms are growing.
