The Saharan Research and Studies Center is organizing in Rissani-Merzouga, the second edition of the Festival of the Music of the Desert. The Festival, which is scheduled to take place from May 26 to 29, will be held under the patronage of the Moroccan King Mohammed VI.
"This initiative," explained the president of the festival, Mr. Mohamed Aourid, during a press conference held recently in Rabat, "aspires to bring together the various cultural expressions (African and Arab) of the Sahara and to present the common bonds of its the inhabitants."
<i>EMarrakech</i> reports that the Festival will host a list of musicians and dancers coming from various Arab and African countries including Morocco, Saudi Arabia, Niger, Senegal, Mauritania, Mali, Jordan and Algeria.
