According to JANA, the Secretary of the General People's Congress met yesterday in Sert with members of the US Congress headed by representative Curt Weldon, and his accompanying delegation, taking part in the activities of the first international conference of the Initiative of Environmental Security of Seas and Oceans currently held in Tripoli.
The Secretary of the General People's Congress welcomed in his speech, the high level delegation of the US House of Representatives and offered extensive explanations about direct people's democracy, the pillar of the Jamahiri system based on legislative peoples congresses and executive people's committees applied in Great Jamahiriya. He stressed the importance of consolidating relations between the Secretariat of the General people's Congress and the US House of Representatives and exchange of visits between them.
For his part, representative Curt Weldon said "This is our third visit, and we learn a lot in every visit on direct people's democracy applied in Great Jamahiriya, praising developments seen by the Libyan American relations at various levels for establishing fruitful cooperation between the two countries".
" We hope during the next coming months that relations between our two countries witness further developments" he added. " Members of the congress, both Republicans and Democrats support initiatives taken to strengthen the two countries' relations.
"We are ready to develop relations of contacts between American and Libyan universities, health institutions and receive Libyan students to study at American universities, which we consider a good investment, as well as development of cooperation in the field of health services in the two countries" said Rep. Curt Weldon .
" Upon our return, we would urge US state department and government to speed up further measures within the framework of cooperation between Great Jamahiriya and America, we pledged that we would continue to support relations and initiatives, and today we came to Great Jamahiriya to take part in the first international conference for the initiative of environmental security of Seas and Oceans, stressing the desire to go ahead to implement what has been agreed during previous visits.
The Secretary of the General people's Congress presented to the US House of Representative several gifts including emblem of the Secretariat of the General People's Congress and the organizational chart of the People's authority.
US congressman Curt Weldon invited the Secretary of the General people's Congress to visit the US House of Representatives.
Secretary and members of the Secretariat of the People's Congress of Sert Shabya ( municipality), Director of the General Department for Americas affairs at the General People' s Committee for Foreign Liaison and international cooperation, and head of the US Liaison Bureau to Great Jamahiriya attended the meeting.
