A shooting followed by two bombings have left nine dead in the vicinity of Baghdad, reports Associated Press.
The first incident involved gunmen in a speeding car shooting at soldiers at a checkpoint in the western suburb of Abu Ghraib. The attack killed three soldiers and wounded eight others.
During a second attack a bomb was detonated in the town of Youssifiyah, 20 kilometers (12 miles) south of the capital. The blast killed four people and injured twelve.
A second bomb exploded on a commercial street in the town of Mahmoudiya, just south of Baghdad, killing two people and wounding ten others.
Associated Press stated that medical officials confirmed the casualties.
