Settlers plan to declare ”independent state” in Gaza Strip

The "Gaza Absorption Administration," a Jewish radical anti-pullout group, organizing the resistance to the upcoming evacuation operation, intends to declare on Sunday "the Jewish independent entity in the Gaza Strip." Speaking to Israel Radio on Sunday, Aryeh Yitzhaki, one of the group’s leaders, said he would head the new entity until "democratic elections" are held on September 4.

According to Yitzhaki, over 1,200 people have already registered for “citizenship” in the new entity. Yitzhaki has sent a letter to Israeli Premier, Ariel Sharon, asking for weapons to defend the new entity from "Palestinian attacks".

Additionally, Yitzhaki has forwarded a letter to U.N. Secretary General Kofi Annan, requesting the international body’s help and protection against Israel’s actions “against Jewish settlers in the Gaza Strip.” He also asked Annan to "recognize" the new entity under international law and the Fourth Geneva Convention.

Asked to comment about the issue, Hisham Abd-el Razek, a senior official in the Fatah Party and a former Palestinian cabinet minister, said it was an internal Israeli issue, which should be handled by the Israeli army.
