Seven people were killed by armed groups Tuesday night in the Ain Defla area west of Algiers, officials said Wednesday.
In an attack in a village east of Ain Defla, a family of five had their throats slit, the officials said, adding that two armed civilian guards were killed in an ambush in the same area, where the hard-line Armed Islamic Group (GIA) is active.
The GIA is one of two armed groups that have refused to lay down their arms in Algeria's bloody civil war, which has claimed around 150,000 lives since 1992, while thousands of fighters surrendered under an amnesty program in 1999.
Since the beginning of March, 32 people have been killed in the violence, AFP said. (Albawaba.com)
