Seventeen iF design awards in six categories for Philips

Eindhoven, The Netherlands - Royal Philips Electronics (NYSE: PHG, AEX: PHI) has once again made a major impact on the annual iF product design award competition, winning 17 awards in 6 categories. This is further confirmation of its acclaimed design approach that integrates its knowledge of people, society, business and technology trends.

One of the world's key design competitions
The iF product design award is extremely prestigious, and its significance is recognized throughout the design world and beyond. More than 20 internationally recognized jurors, consisting of designers and entrepreneurs, engage in critical discussion and debate to select the winning products from approximately 2000 competing entries spanning more than 30 countries. Since its inauguration in 1953, the iF design award has been an enduring accolade for outstanding design. Companies and design studios use the iF seal as a visible symbol of product and service quality.

Winning lifestyle products

 

 


This year, Philips was successful in a number of different categories. The Consumer Electronics category produced eight winners; the 9FF2CMI Photo Frame, HTS9800 Home Theater System, ME6 LCD Flat TV 42PF7521D/12, , Cineos Flat TV TOP B 42PF9731D_10, Portable Speakers SBA1500, Headphones SHG5300, Headphones SHN9500, GoGear Digital Audio Player SA9200 and the DPM9600 Digital Dictation Device.

Beyond consumer products

 

 

As well as receiving awards in the categories Lighting (Koffer2 Roadling and LED Luminaire Range 1), Medicine (PMS Monitor Range, Ultrasound HD11XE) and Public Design/Interior Design (Singapore Learning Center), Philips has for the first time submitted products and received an outstanding 3 awards in the category Advanced Studies. The awarded projects were Dimi (a smart companion for sharing and experiencing digital media with which users can interact in natural ways); Next Simplicity (showcasing simplicity-led design concepts) and SKIN design research (dynamic garments exploring the area known as ‘emotional sensing’).

The awards ceremony will take place on March 15, which is opening day of the 2007 iF design exhibition. The iF Yearbook will be launched on the same day. The exhibition runs until August 2007, and approximately 300,000 international visitors are expected to attend during this period. All prize-winning entries will also be shown at the on-line iF exhibition.
