Shelling and strikes were reported on the rebel side of Aleppo on Thursday despite a temporary ceasefire announced by Russia to clear the way for humanitarian envoys to reach civilians, activists said.
"So far we have reports that there is shelling and fighting," said Rami Abdel Rahman, head of the Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.
Russian General Sergei Rudskoi told reporters Wednesday that all military hostilities in Aleppo province would halt for three hours over a period of three days starting Thursday to allow humanitarian convoys to deliver aid to civilians.
The ceasefire was due to last three hours beginning at 10 am local time (0700 GMT).
"The shelling is still ongoing ... this Russian propaganda is a lie," Mahmoud al-Shami, an activist based in the eastern sector of Aleppo, told dpa.
Al-Shami added that several shells fell on districts in south-western Aleppo after the pause in hostilities.
Last month, Syrian government forces captured the last remaining rebel supply route into the east, Castello Road, raising fears that some 250,000 to 300,000 civilians there would come under siege.
