A team of surgeons has carried out the first sex-change operation in Spain paid for by the public health system to turn a woman into a man, Carlos Haya hospital said in Malaga Saturday.
A 38 year-old woman was operated on for six-and-half-hours on Friday following a year of hormone treatment and psychological preparation.
The operation was paid for by the public health system of the Andalusia region whose government decided last year in favor of sex-change operations being covered by the public health system.
Since then sex-change operations have been carried out on six men, but Friday's was the first publicly funded sex-change operation on a woman -- MALAGA (AFP)
