The Commercial Supervision Section of the Sharjah Economic Development Department is making concerted efforts to limit fraud within the emirate and the proliferation of counterfeit brands in both local and international markets.

Mr. Khalid Al Shamsi, Head of the Commercial Supervision section said: "One of our main tasks is to actively stop this 'Commercial Fraud' phenomenon and to gain the trust of producers, traders and consumers."

He added: "Since addressing this problem with the establishment of the Commercial Prevention Section, we are actively seeking to take in hand the complaints and problems related to counterfeit branding; considering all those who may be affected by this - consumers, traders, importers and businesses. This new department will assess all complaints and take the most appropriate legal action immediately."

Mr. Khalid alliterated the importance of the Commercial Supervision section, saying that by addressing the problems related to counterfeit goods, particularly of international brands, many international firms will save money that is normally lost every year as a result of their sales.

He concluded that the main objective for establishing the Commercial Prevention section, is to draw together the efforts of commercial and governmental parties, to take the required procedures to stop this phenomenon and to protect nationals and residents in the emirate - in addition to maintain the integrity of local markets and their reputation globally, maintaining the trust of international companies based within the Middle East.
