Israeli Prime Minister-elect Ariel Sharon assured Turkey this week that the ties between Turkey and Israel will improve still more, according to The Jerusalem Post.

Meir Rosenne, a special envoy of the new administration, conveyed Sharon's messages to Ankara during his talks in the Turkish capital Ankara, said the daily, which added that the two-day visit focused on the faltering Middle East peace process, and on Israel's policy on Turkey aimed at boosting current strategic relations. In his message, Sharon also asked Turkey to use its position as a bridge for solving problems between Israel and the Palestinians.

Palestinian President Yasser Arafat visited Ankara this month, reportedly to ask for mediation between him and Sharon, who is under international pressures to lift the sanctions imposed on the Palestinians – Albawaba.com
