The Art Centre at Dubai Ladies Club, a Member of Dubai Women Establishment, today announced that the art submission deadline for Sheikha Manal’s Young Artist Award 2009 has been extended through Friday, 30th October, 2009. Interested participants can apply via the newly launched website www.youngartistaward.ae.
“The interest generated by Her Highness Sheikha Manal’s Young Artist Award has exceeded our expectations,” said Muna Bin Kalli, Executive Director of Dubai Ladies Club. “To accommodate the many budding artists who have expressed interest, the art submission deadline has been extended until 30th October, 2009. The competition has already attracted a high quality of entries. We hope that many more will take advantage of the extended deadline to enter the competition; which not only rewards the emerging artists but also encourages them with recognition and support.”
Moreover, The Art Centre at Dubai Ladies Club is pleased to announce Etisalat as the exclusive sponsor of Sheikha Manal’s Young Artist Award 2009.
Muna Bin Kalli, Executive Director of Dubai Ladies Club, added: “I would like to present my thanks to Etisalat, Exclusive Sponsors of Her Highness Sheikha Manal’s Young Artist Award 2009. We are delighted to have their support, to recognise and raise the profile of young emerging artists within the UAE. There is no doubt a concerted effort in this regard will lay a solid foundation, for young artists to take up art as a career.”
In line with the vision of Sheikha Manal bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, President of Dubai Women Establishment, wife of His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Presidential Affairs, UAE, this initiative was first launched in 2006. Now in its third year, the competition aims to encourage, recognise and promote emerging artists from the UAE and is especially popular amongst university students majoring in Art, Design and Multimedia.
The competition is open to all UAE residents, male and female, between the ages of 18 to 30 years. One major criterion for the award is that the artist should not have had an independent solo exhibition previously. The award grants the winning artists the exciting opportunity to exhibit their work in a solo showcasing for the first time.
The competition is divided into three categories – ‘Fine Art Award’; ‘Photography Award’ and ‘Multimedia Award’. Each category winner, runner up and second runner up will receive a cash prize worth AED30, 000, AED20, 000 and AED10, 000 respectively.
Young Artists Award 2009 entries will be reviewed by a distinguished panel of judges - from members of the local and international art community. The panel will shortlist fifty art works for an exhibition at The Art Centre at Dubai Ladies Club with the Gala Award Night to be held in November 2009.
