Israeli troops occupying the foothills of the Golan Heights fired several mortar rounds on the outskirts of a Lebanese village on Monday, witnesses said.
Reuters reported Israeli troops stationed in the occupied Shebaa Farms region had targeted an area of olive groves and oak trees around the Lebanese village of Kfar Shouba.
Israeli troops occasionally shell or aim machinegun fire at the edges of Kfar Shouba to try and ward off what they regard as potential infiltration by the Lebanese Resistance Hizbullah guerrillas.
Earlier, Israeli military sources said that one or more gunmen opened fire on an Israeli outpost in the Shebaa Farms area. Israeli troops fired illumination flares into the sky around the outpost and Israeli helicopters hovered above the scene. No casualties reported.
Earlier in the day, Hizbullah anti-aircraft gunners in southern Lebanon opened fire on Israeli jets patrolling the Israeli Lebanese border region.
The anti-aircraft shells resulted in no casualties or damage when they crashed into Israel, according to the Jerusalem Post.
Israeli planes flying along the western end of the border region suffered no damage as well, the same report added. (Albawaba.com)
