Six people died, five of them in a single incident, and 41 were injured in Friday's earthquake in western Turkey, the Anatolia news agency reported early Saturday.
Five men died when the mosque they were worshipping in collapsed, and a sixth person died of a heart attack in the quake, which measured 5.8 on the open-ended Richter scale, the agency said.
All the deaths occurred in the village of Yasarlar in Konya province, near the epicenter of the quake.
The governor of the province, Ahmet Kayhan, was quoted as saying that 41 people were injured, most of them after jumping in panic from balconies and windows.
The epicenter of the quake was the town of Bolvadin, some 300 kilometers (180 miles) southwest of Ankara in the province of Afyon.
However all the known casualties occurred in Konya province, which borders Afyon.
The main tremor hit at 6:44 PM (1644 GMT) and was followed by more than 60 mild aftershocks, the Istanbul seismological institute said.
Material damage was not significant, it added.
The last major earthquakes in Turkey occurred in August and November 1999, when more than 20,000 people were killed -- ANKARA (AFP)
