In Northern Egypt, six people drowned in a cesspit, in a tragic series of events, which began when a housewife sought to unblock her domestic sewage pipe, according to police officials.
Mona Ibrahim, 40, drowned after slipping into the pit earlier this week while trying to unblock the pipe leading to her home in Abu Tig, 360 kilometers south of Cairo.
Her brother Refaat suffered the same fate when he sought to save her, police said, according to AFP.
Alerted by their cries, neighbors rushed to the scene and sought ways to save the pair.
The edge of the cesspit gave way under the weight of those gathered and five men fell in as well. Only one of them managed to scramble to safety and was rushed to hospital suffering from inhalation of toxic gases. (Albawaba.com)
