Six Palestinians were injured in scattered clashes with Israeli troops in the West Bank and Gaza Strip on Friday, although the level of street violence remained low.
In the Gaza Strip, three Palestinians were hit by rubber-coated steel bullets after hurling stones at an army blockade near the town of Khan Yunis, witnesses and hospital officials said.
The clashes erupted as thousands of mourners joined the funeral in Gaza City of the 24-year-old Islamic Jihad activist who killed himself and wounded an Israeli soldier in a suicide bomb attack against an army post the day before.
Another three Palestinians were injured by shots fired by Israeli soldiers in the West Bank town of Bethlehem.
Clashes also erupted in Ramallah, where demonstrators set alight tires and overturned cars.
In Jerusalem, security was tight for Friday prayers at the al-Aqsa mosque compound, the holy site at the heart of the month-long wave of violence that has rocked the Palestinian territories.
Around 50 Palestinian youths, encircled by Israeli police, prayed outside the walls of the Old City after being barred entry.
Afterwards, they took to the streets, shouting slogans in support of the Lebanese Shiite Muslim guerrilla movement Hezbollah and the continuation of the uprising against Israel, but no incidents were reported -- GAZA CITY (AFP)
