Sixty people were killed when a bus plunged into a river in central Ethiopia while attempting to cross a flooded bridge, state radio reported Friday, quoted by The Associated Press.
Rescue workers found seven survivors, some of whom were injured in the accident Thursday morning near Welenchiti, 80 miles east of the capital, Addis Ababa, the radio said.
Witnesses said the bus overturned several times after plunging into the river, which had flooded after heavy rains, the radio reported.
Among the dead were 21 women and four university students, who graduated this month.
