Skywards, the frequent flyer programme of Emirates and SriLankan Airlines, is sponsoring the third concert in Dubai’s first annual Blue Note Jazz Nights Series with a concert by percussionist Trilok Gurtu.

Run in association with Blue Note Records/EMI, the concert will take place at the Fairmont Hotel’s Barajeel Ballroom on Tuesday 29th November.

A master of Indian tabla music as well as western drumming, Trilok plays in a unique, east-west drum style.  He is also a visionary composer whose musical adventurousness has led him to creative fusions of Indian music, jazz, rock, classical, and ethnic music from all over the world.

Trilok is well known in the international jazz community through his collaborations with Don Cherry, John McLaughlin, Joe Zawinul, and Pat Metheny, while remaining close to his Indian origins in his work with Zakir Hussein.

Trilok has recorded many albums and received numerous prestigious nominations and awards including:
ª Best Percussionist in DownBeat's Critics Poll 1994, 1995, 1996, 2000 & 2001
ª Best Artist - Asia/Pacific Nominee, BBC Radio 3 World Music Awards 2002, 2003, 2004
ª Carlton Television's Multicultural Music Award 2001
ª Best Percussionist in Drum magazine’s Readers Poll 1999

Brian Labelle, Skywards’ Vice President, said: “The Blue Note Jazz Nights Series has proven popular with jazz aficionados for the past two concerts and I am sure this latest concert by Trilok Gurtu will continue to enthral.”

This is the third of 10 events over the coming year that will feature Blue Note Records artists, in addition to other jazz luminaries, including Sonny Rollins, Diane Reeves and Herbie Hancock.

The concert includes the option of attending a gala dinner before the performance.  Doors open at 1930 with dinner served from 2030hrs.  The concert starts at 2200hrs.  Tickets are also available for the concert only and priced at Dhs150.  Bookings can be made by telephoning the Fairmont Hotel.
