An Iranian semi-official news agency reported on Sunday that the state has confirmed it is holding an unspecified number of Slovak nationals, who are accused of breaking the law, AP reported.

The report by ISNA quotes Abbas Araghchi, Iran's foreign ministry spokesperson, as saying the Slovaks entered Iran as tourists, "but they had unconventional behavior and instruments. They violated Iran's law."

He also said that Slovak diplomats have access to the detainees.

Iran failed to specify how many Slovaks were being held or the names of those being detained.

Earlier this year, Iran released a Slovak who had been held for weeks under suspicion that he was working for the CIA.
