The EU's foreign policy chief, Javier Solana, is due to arrive in Cairo Tuesday evening for a one-day visit with President Hosni Mubarak and top aide Osama Al Baz.
Al Gomhuria newspaper said that the president would receive Solana on Wednesday “to discuss ways for coordinating stands and prepare groundwork for the resumption of Palestinian-Israeli talks.”
Solana, who is on a tour of the region that has taken him to Israel, will also meet with Mubarak’s top advisor Osama Al Baz.
In Israel Tuesday, Solana was booed by dozens of Israelis shouting "death to Arabs" as he was visiting the scene of a suicide bomb blast which wounded 13 people Tuesday morning in Jerusalem, according to AFP.
"Antisemite, go back to Durban," the crowd yelled, in reference to the push by Arab and Muslim countries to include resolutions against Israel in the final declaration of the ongoing UN conference on racism in South Africa.
"Death to Arabs, Arabs want us dead,” the Israeli crowd also shouted.
Solana was escorted back to his car by his bodyguards and Israeli border police.
"We completely condemn this brutal act. It's horrible, all of this must stop, it must be clearly stated," said Solana, as he arrived on the scene.
Solana arrived Sunday night in Israel as part of a regional tour aimed at "consolidating the ceasefire and resuming dialogue" between Israel and the Palestinians, said AFP.
A scheduled meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon was cancelled Monday, but the EU foreign policy chief met with Peres and is expected to hold talks Tuesday with Palestinian President Yasser Arafat - Albawaba.com
