The son of a Colombian anti-narcotics official has been arrested for trying to smuggle in 3.3 kilos (7.2 pounds) of heroin, a US customs official said Friday.
Andres Lafaurie Restrepo, 19, was detained by customs officials at Miami airport after he tried to enter the country carrying the drugs under his clothes taped around his legs, Zach Mann said.
Restrepo is the son of the director of Colombia's government drug substitution program Maria Ines Restrepo, who confirmed the arrest from Bogota.
"We must tell all Colombians, the children and the youth ...that I have been told that my son traveled from Barranquilla (northern Colombia) to Miami as a courier," she told Colombian television Friday.
"This is terrible for me as a mother. We Colombians must end this scourge," she told Colombian television Friday -- MIAMI (AFP)
