Two of the finest tribute bands, for soul superstars – The Drifters - and Motown legends – The Four Tops, are set to rock the lawns at Dubai’s Nad Al Sheba Club this November at the Oil Barons’ Ball, the premier social event for the regional energy industry.
The Drifters tribute band, made up of Peter Lemarr, Patrick Alan, Rohan Delano Turney and Victor Bynoe, have all descended from a long list of great performers that have performed with the band over the past few decades.
At the Oil Barons’ Ball, on November 15, they will thrill the audience with The Drifters’ all-time greats such as ‘On Broadway’, ‘Save the Last Dance for Me’, ‘There Goes My Baby’ and ‘Saturday Night at The Movies’.
“The band, which has performed live at the White House for President Clinton, are all set to entertain guests with their unique mix of soul music with gospel style vocals,” said Eileen Michael, Publisher, Reflex Publishing ME, FZ LLC, which organises The Oil Barons’ Ball and is behind Pipeline magazine, the region’s leading monthly oil and gas publication.
“They will be sharing the stage with The Four Tops tribute band, which went down a storm at last year’s event. The music of both bands appeals to people of all ages today as it did many years ago when it was first performed.”
The Four Tops band is led by Abdul ‘Duke’ Fakir who performed with the original line up. He will be joined on stage by Theo Peoples, Lewis McNeil and Lawrence Payton Jr., son of founder member, the late Lawrence Payton and will have everybody up dancing to Four Tops’ chart-topping hits such as ‘Bernadette’, ‘Walk away Renee’ and ‘Standing in the Shadows of Love’.
More than 1,000 top regional oil industry executives are expected to gather at The Oil Barons’ Ball, being staged under the patronage of HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, President, Department of Civil Aviation and Chairman of Dubai Aviation Corporation - Dubai World Central, Government of Dubai and Chairman of Emirates.
The event is sponsored by Dubai Gold & Commodities Exchange (DGCX), Liberty Automobiles Co. Ltd. and The Courtyard Marriott.
The fourth edition of the ball will also witness the crowning of the Middle East Oil Baron 2006 – the person judged by his peers to be an outstanding individual from within the Middle East’s energy industry.
