Syrian President Bashar al-Assad last month married in a discreet ceremony a young woman from a prominent Sunni family, Syrian sources in Paris close to the two families said Tuesday.
The ceremony between the 35-year-old Assad, who succeeded his father as president in July, and Asma Akhrass, in her mid twenties, took place in the strictest intimacy and was to be made public at the end of the holy month of Ramadan, the sources said.
They said Akhrass, the daughter of a cardiologist residing in London, had studied economics in Britain -- PARIS (AFP)
