The European Union will be from now on more involved in a new initiative to engage Iran over its nuclear program. EU diplomatic sources told IRNA on Saturday that EU foreign ministers, in their meeting in Luxembourg on Monday, decided to involve EU foreign policy chief Javier Solana together with the EU-3 (UK, Germany and France) to resolve the nuclear standoff with Tehran.
The sources pointed out that senior diplomats from the G8 met in Washington on Friday to discuss a package of incentives to offer to Iran against full suspension of its enrichment program.
"The EU is passing through a very critical phase in its relations with Iran. We want Iran to fully suspend its nuclear enrichment programme," said the sources. "Iran had rejected an earlier offer by the EU-3 so now we are preparing an attractive package which can be acceptable," said the sources.
