Germany is to sign an agreement with the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to train Iraqi police and military officials in the Gulf state, German government sources said Thursday ahead of a visit to the region by German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder.
The officials said the deal would help Germany fulfill its promised contribution to efforts to reconstruct Iraq after the war.
Any agreement would not preclude the possibility that the Iraqi police and military could also be trained elsewhere, including in Germany, they added, according to AFP.
Schroeder is scheduled to leave Saturday for a three-day visit to the region, during which he will visit Egypt and Saudia Arabia before the United Arab Emirates. (Albawaba.com)
