An Iberian airlines plane chartered by a group protesting against the UN embargo on Iraq will make the first flight from Madrid to Baghdad in a decade on Saturday, its organizers said.
The flight will transport 150 people and eight tons of medical and educational equipment, according to the Spanish campaign for the lifting of sanctions against Iraq which groups dozens of companies, political groups and associations.
It will be the first Spanish aircraft to land in Baghdad since the air embargo was imposed in 1990 after Iraq invaded Kuwait.
The embargo remains in place despite dozens of Arab, French, Russian and other flights to the Iraqi capital since Saddam International Airport was reopened in August -- MADRID (AFP)
