Fire at Syrian health clinic kills 25, mostly children: state media

According to Syrian state media, a fire that broke out at a clinic in northeastern Syria on Sunday killing 25 people and injuring 30 others, reports the Associated Press.

“Twenty-five civilians were killed and 30 were injured, mostly children, when a fuel tank exploded in the Maysalun clinic Qamishli,” Syrian state news reported. 

According to AFP, sources identified the cause of the fire as a fuel tank explosion. 

Juan Mohammad, a Kurdish official in the neighboring city of Hassakeh, told AP the clinic was crowded with children receiving polio vaccinations. 

Qamishli is a major Kurdish city near the Turkish border that is also home to a number of Christian minority groups.
