Eight Emirati pupils and a teacher were hospitalized briefly following a chemical leak in a school science laboratory, Gulf News reported Wednesday.

They were affected by noxious fumes after a container of chlorine was accidentally broken and reacted with other liquids during a chemistry lesson at Al Raya Secondary School for Girls on Monday, the paper said.

The Grade 11 students and their teacher rushed out of the building, which quickly filled with the fumes, the paper said, quoting a fire station spokesman as saying an emergency call was received from the school at 1.15 p.m. and a crew was sent to deal with the spill - Albawaba.com
