The Great Singapore Sale has kicked-off for 2010, offering fantastic discounts of up to 70 percent on fashion, electronics, jewellery and toys at thousands of stores and malls across the island nation from May 28 until July 25.
This year's GSS is offering visitors the best shopping experience yet, with the inclusion of Singapore's two new multi-billion dollar Integrated Resorts and new luxury shopping malls, such as ION Orchard, 313@somerset and Orchard Central, as well as late night shopping experiences, entertainment and prize-winning competitions.
Visitors will also be able to enjoy significant savings at 40 of Singapore's top tourist attractions, plus value deals and complimentary value adds at 30 participating hotels- transforming the twelfth GSS into a lifestyle experience.
"The retail landscape this year will be even more exciting with new and newly furbished malls along Orchard Road, as well as two new Integrated Resorts, all offering great shopping experiences and deals for shoppers. On top of this visitors will be able to enjoy discounts on accommodation, dining and entrance to some of our best attractions. The Great Singapore Sale 2010 offers visitors from the Middle East a wonderful opportunity to enjoy great savings, while allowing them to have a great time in Singapore," said Jason Ong, Area Director for the Middle East and Africa, Singapore Tourism Board (STB).
"Not only can visitors access a diverse range of shopping experiences from locally–grown brands to internationally-renowned labels once they arrive in Singapore, but they can also log onto the YourSingapore.com portal to identify their shopping personality and check out the best deals online before they arrive," Ong added.
Shopping has been shown to be one of the top priorities for many visitors to Singapore. According to STB figures a total of S$3.1billion was spent by travellers to Singapore last year on retail items alone, making shopping the highest overall expenditure for tourists.
For GSS 2010, MasterCard, the Official Card of the GSS for the seventh year running, is offering card holders exclusive offers at more than 120 establishments during the event. For every MasterCard transaction a donation will be made by the firm to Singapore's Children's Society.
Singapore Press Holdings (SPH), the event's official media partner, has $200,000 worth of prizes up for grabs as part of its SPH Shop and Win Draw. Prizes include Subaru cars, 65 inch sharp LCD television, Mitsubishi electric refrigerators, Nikon digital cameras, Canon printers, and more.
STB is forecasting 11.5million to 12.5 million global visitor arrivals in 2010. Last year Singapore welcomed 117,000 visitors from the Middle East, a 2.7 percent growth over 2008. Globally, Singapore received 9.68 million visitors, which exceeded its forecast of 9 million– 9.5 million visitors for 2009.
