Summertown International FZE, Jafza-based market leader in design, planning and integrating flexible office solutions, has won LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Gold Rating for its headquarters in the free zone.
This makes it the first Interior and Joinery Company in the UAE to attain the coveted environmental accreditation for its office facilities.
The LEED rating system is a global benchmark for the design, construction, and operation of high-performance green buildings. It promotes a holistic approach to sustainability by recognising performance in key areas of human and environmental health. LEED Gold rating is the second-highest ranking obtainable under the system.
Summertown’s headquarters is a sustainable, energy-efficient facility with high-performance green interior and an inspiring work environment. It uses 35 per cent less energy, upto 50 per cent less water and diverts over 90 per cent of its waste from the landfill compared to a conventional building.
Marcos Bish, Managing Director, Summertown International, commenting on the distinctive achievement said: “As interior design and fit-out specialists of green interiors, it is vital that we lead by example. After successfully winning the LEED Gold rating we are in a position to efficiently assist companies who are keen on going green or try to convince others of the importance of having energy and environmentally friendly interiors.”
Fatma Salem, Executive Vice President and Commercial Director, Operations, EZW - UAE Region, said: “We congratulate Summertown for the creditable achievement. Jafza is deeply committed to sustainability and we will continue to promote environment protecting schemes in the free zone. Our various green initiatives and energy conserving projects reflect this vision.”
Summertown, with offices in Abu Dhabi and Dubai, offers design solutions on a complete turnkey fit-out basis. The 100,000 square feet Summertown joinery in the Jebel Ali Free Zone was the first joinery in the UAE to be ISO certified. The company’s design team comprises architects, planners and designers who interpret their client’s requirements and suggest environment-friendly solutions, prior and during the stage of development.
