A Bosnian Croat suspect in the March 1999 car bomb attack that killed a deputy interior minister turned himself in to Sarajevo authorities Monday, UN police spokesman said Tuesday.

"Jadranko Lucic, a suspect in the assassination of Jozo Leutar turned himself in yesterday (Monday) to Sarajevo cantonal court," Douglas Coffman told a press briefing.

An arrest warrant for Lucic had been issued earlier this year, he added.

In September, UN representative Jacques Klein said Bosnian Croat militia chief Ivan Andabak was the "main suspect" behind the car bomb attack against Leutar.

Andabak, who is being held in Croatia on drug charges, was a general in the Bosnian Croat militia (HVO) during the 1992-95 Bosnian war.

The international community has accused part of the Bosnian Croat leadership of being involved in the murder of Leutar, a Croat who was investigating organized crime at the time of his murder.

Three Bosnian Croats, Dominik Ilijasevic, Zoran Basic and Zeljko Cosic are being held for carrying out attacks, including the assassination of Leutar – SARAJEVO (AFP)
