Companies which do not adopt socially and environmentally sustainable business practices will suffer in the long-term, said company executives speaking at the Annual Aramex Leaders Conference, which took place in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt recently.
Widely regarded as a role model for corporate sustainability, Aramex was the first company in the region to issue a sustainability report and is committed to becoming the first carbon neutral express and logistics provider in the world.
The theme of the event, “Changing Today, Protecting Tomorrow,” was designed to emphasize the importance of Aramex’s global corporate responsibility activities and discuss the opportunities that sustainability can create in today’s competitive marketplace.
Attended by leaders from within Aramex’s extensive global network, the event brought together more than 350 leaders from around the world to further engage them in the company’s commitment to sustainability in each of the countries in which it operates.
Speaking at the conference, Aramex Founder and CEO, Fadi Ghandour, stressed that corporate sustainability represents an important opportunity for Aramex to make a long-term investment that will ultimately benefit the bottom line.
“By stepping up and playing a more active role in the development of our communities, we stand to gain both strategically and financially. We’ve made major advances in this area; however sustainability needs to become an integral part of our corporate culture,” said Ghandour.
Since last year’s conference at the Dead Sea in Jordan, Aramex has made major strides as a socially-responsible company, including joining the United Nations ‘Global Compact’ initiative in December 2007, a platform created to engage the private sector in positive global corporate practices.
